22 December 2016, Cylenchar receives notice of grant of its Chinese Patent Application for CyCurex® heavy metals abatement technology.

  • Air-Pollution-Shanghai

Cylenchar Limited (“Cylenchar”) is pleased to announce that it has received notice of Grant of Patent from the Chinese Patent Office for its CyCurex® technology CN Application No. 200980105223.1, entitled 'An Air Pollution Reduction Solution'.

Whilst primarily aimed at the air bound ionic and elemental mercury abatement market, Cylenchar's CyCurex® system has the capacity to capture and sequester a broad spectrum of heavy metal pollutants.

With the growth in industries such as power generation, cement manufacturing, and chemicals and metal processing, China has witnessed exponential growth in industrial activities, resulting in a huge amount of pollutants through emissions from industries.

Air pollution dents the Chinese economy by an estimated 6.5% of its circa US$11-trillion-plus GDP annually, according to RAND Corp. estimates. Those costs are mainly driven by lost productivity, through factory stoppages on ‘bad air days’ to avoid the dangerous health effects of breathing the dense, toxic air. As a consequence China has committed to improving air quality 10 percent by 2017, with strict new laws to crack down on polluters.

The Asia-Pacific Air Quality Control Systems Market has been projected to be worth circa US$46 Billion by 2019, with China being by far the largest contributor. Mercury control systems are projected to comprise 4% or US$1.84 Billion. Emission regulations are the major factors that drive the air quality control systems market. The air quality control systems market in China is expected to grow at a compound average rate of 6.6%, to 2020.

22 September 2015, Cylenchar files patent for CyAspis® radiochemical pollution abatement technology.

  • Cylenchar Limited (“Cylenchar”) is pleased to announce that it has filed a PCT application No. EP2015/071687 at the European Patent Office (EPO) for its CyAspis® technology entitled 'A method for concentrating and/or entrapping radioisotopes from an aqueous solution'.

    Lab Water

Cylenchar's CyAspis® system was devised to address specific pollution issues that had arisen post the Fukushima disaster. Judiciously used, CyAspis® can concentrate and isolate hydrogen isotopes such as tritium, whilst at the same time sequestering caesium and strontium radio-nucleotides, binding them into a stable matrix.

Cylenchar's CyCurex® system has the capacity to capture and fix higher radiochemical heavy metal pollutants, and thus the company believes that the two systems used in combination can provide a complete solution to issues of radiochemical pollution control.

27 February 2013, Cylenchar receives notice of allowance of its US Patent Application for its CyCurex SO3 / H2SO4 abatement technology.

  • Cylenchar Limited (“Cylenchar”) is pleased to announce that it has received notice of allowance of all its claims for its US Patent Application No. 13/167,164 of 23 June 2011, entitled 'Air Pollution Solution to the Problem of Opacity in Coal Fired Power Plant Stack Emissions'.

Increased opacity of power plant stack exhaust gases is frequently an unwanted side effect of SCR systems installed to meet regulated reductions in NOx emissions. The problem occurs when SO3 generated in the power plant stack emissions is converted into vapour-phase sulphuric acid (H2SO4). When the H2SO4 cools, it forms fine particles of sulphuric acid aerosol. In sufficient concentration, the particulates scatter light and create a visible plume that is typically blue or brown-orange, increasing the opacity of stack emissions.

Cylenchar believes its solution offers a radical, 'disruptive technology' approach to the problem of 'Blue Plume', and its new US patent will be a significant addition to the company's CyCurex® technology IP portfolio.

10 January 2013, Cylenchar Limited concludes dispute with Environmental Energy Services, Inc. at the London Court of International Arbitration.

Cylenchar Limited (“Cylenchar”) is pleased to announce the conclusion of its dispute with Environmental Energy Services, Inc. (“EES”) of Sandy Hook, Connecticut at the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), (Cylenchar, LTD v. Environmental Energy Services, Inc., Arbitration No. 11203).

Following the breakdown and termination of relations between the parties in May 2010, a dispute arose culminating in the filing of a lawsuit by EES in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut in January, 2011 entitled Environmental Energy Services, Inc. v Cylenchar Limited and Dr. Peter J. Hurley, Case No. 3:11-cv-00039-JCH, wherein EES alleged breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and negligent or fraudulent misrepresentations, including an alleged breach of the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA). Cylenchar stopped that lawsuit by moving successfully for compulsion of arbitration which it commenced against EES in the London Court of International Arbitration in December, 2011.

In respect of EES' allegations the LCIA arbiter found no evidence of negligent or fraudulent misrepresentation and in relation to the alleged breach of CUTPA, in his award issued on 1 November 2012 the arbiter noted: “I see no “unfair methods of competition” nor do I see “deceptive acts or practices””. The award in which all EES’ claims were denied and Cylenchar Limited was granted its costs in respect of the Connecticut lawsuit has now been confirmed by the Connecticut Superior Court, and EES has paid Cylenchar the damages awarded in the arbitration (http://civilinquiry.jud.ct.gov/GetDocket.aspx, Case No. DBD-CV-12-6010993-S).

Cylenchar retains the sole right to exploit its patented CyCurex® technology for the remediation of mercury and other heavy metals from contaminated gases, within both power utility and cement industry sectors, and the surviving obligations of the parties under their Mutual Confidentiality Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding remain in force.
